High Def Concert Videos: Now Playing on Jamtopia

Posted Thu, August 14, 2008 at 9:28 am by Todd Levy

Those of you who frequent YouTube may have noticed that many of your favorite concert videos feature a small link below them that reads “watch in high quality.”

Well yesterday I made a small change in the way videos are being embedded so that now, wherever possible, Jamtopia's concert videos will be presented in high quality.

The difference is subtle at this small size, but you can compare the quality below…

Standard Quality

Sorry. You need to Flash to watch this movie.

It's the same Jamtopia you know and love, just a little more face-melting than before.

Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB at All Points West

Hot on the heels of the first (and very well received) Trey Anstasio & Classic TAB show in Brooklyn, the band was back together again on Sunday for one set at the first All Points West Music & Arts Festival at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.

As expected, the show didn't match the energy or intimacy of Classic TAB's warm-up show in Brooklyn, but Trey still managed to deliver some “dirty wah” and “nasty solos” at the APW Fest according to the fine folks @glidemag.

An all killer no filler affair where the band didn’t take many chances, but allowed Trey to rip some incredibly fast and melodic solos.

Scroll down to see the setlist from Trey Anastasio & Classic TAB All Points West Festival, watch videos, and read reviews, but don't expect too many surprises. The set was 100% repeats from Brooklyn.

P.S. Sorry for the boring headline. It was really all I could muster. If you have better ideas, drop a comment.

Update (11:49 PM): Word is that Trey sat in with Jack Johnson on Mudfootball. More details as they come.

Update (August 14, 2008): I've just added a bunch of pictures of Trey at All Points West thanks to Matt Simpson of WNEW FM in New York.

Classic Trey Band Makes Some Noise in Brooklyn

Just a few days after Trey's acoustic performance at Newport Folk Festival and with Phish reunion rumors still swirling, Trey Anastasio staged a reunion of another sort — getting the “classic” Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) from 1999 back together for an intimate show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY.

Classic TAB was my favorite of Trey's side projects, a short-lived power trio featuring Trey on guitar, Russ Lawton on drums, and Tony Markellis on bass. The Brooklyn show found them reunited, only this time as a foursome, with the great Ray Paczkowski on keys added to the mix.

And that wasn't the only reunion going on. After a handful of acoustic-only gigs, Trey was also reunited with his Languedoc, the custom hollow-body guitar that helps create the “Trey-tone” so familiar to and beloved by Phish fans.

The Trey Band Brooklyn Setlist featured traditional TAB songs like Cayman Review, Night Speaks, Drifting, and Mr. Completely; first time debuts including Gone, Valentine, Greyhound Rising, and Light; and the electric debut of the new songs Alaska, Peggy, and Backwards Down The Number Line.

Security may be non-existent, but my husband and our friends got yelled at for dancing too hard on the balcony!

P.S. The title of this post is a reference to Jay-Z's guest appearance with Phish in Brooklyn.

Andy Gadiel’s Phish Page is Back!!!

Posted Sun, August 03, 2008 at 6:33 am by Todd Levy
Andy Gadiel's Phish Page

After a too-long haitus, and a brief return looking like a blog, the original Andy Gadiel's PHISH page is back in action!

For those not in the know, for 10 years Andy's page served as THE de-facto source for all things Phish and Phish-related.

A hodge-podge of news, setlists, tour schedules and a whole lot more, gadiel.com/phish always managed to repay multiple visits with something you missed the last time.

Sporting the same great retro look you know and love from back in the day, it's really a sight for sore eyes and certainly a harbinger of an impending Phish reunion.

Welcome back Andy!

P.S. Andy is also one of the judges for the 2008 Jamtopia Concert Photo Contest, going on now.

Trey Sails Sweetly Through Newport

Less than a month after Trey's triumphant return at ROTHBURY and in the midst of all sorts of Phish reunion speculation, Big Red returned to the stage again today for a solo acoustic set at the legendary Newport Folk Festival.

Trey's Newport setlist was filled with plenty of Phish tunes and included a bunch of songs that weren't played at ROTHBURY — namely Bouncing Around the Room, Heavy Things, Shine, Bathtub Gin, and Wilson.

Trey also debuted two songs at Newport: Peggy and If I Could Be a Sailor. The latter was written 10 years ago with, and dedicated to, Tom Marshall. It was described on Glide Magazine's Twitter stream as sounding like Dan Hill's 1977 ballad Sometimes When We Touch.

Scroll down for audio and videos from the show. And be sure to to check back once in a while as I'll be adding more audio sources and videos from Trey's Newport set as soon as I find them.

Phish’s Trey Anastasio, one of the day’s least folky performers in theory, was the only act to play unplugged and solo. He sounded as gentle as a mountain dulcimer.
